Nos mères, nos daronnes

A FILM BY BOUCHERA AZZOUZ et MARION STALENS

2015

“Daronne,” a slang term derived from Old French, means mother, or boss. In working-class neighborhoods, daronnes are the women on whom everything—or almost everything—rests. They are sentinels who never let their guard down. This film is a tribute to all those who embody grassroots feminism. Mothers, often homemakers, but also teachers or social workers, they have challenged traditions and gradually won their independence, little by little and without fanfare, forging their own paths rather than following the predetermined ones laid out for them.
